The Infant Adoption Training Initiative is an adoption awareness training for designated staff at public and non-profit entities that provide health and/or counseling services to pregnant women. The training curriculum has been updated, improved, and unified across the United States with other national grantees to more effectively meet the needs of today's health care professionals.
The training's target audience is listed below. This group, considered eligible participants, are qualified to receive mileage reimbursement, lodging (when training is 60 miles plus, one way from participant), and a $50 stipend. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at the training.
- Eligible health centers that receive grants under authority contained in Title X of the Public Health Service Act (relating to voluntary family planning projects);
- Eligible health centers that receive grants under Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act (relating to community health centers , migrant health centers and centers regarding homeless individuals and residents of public housing); and
- Eligible health centers that receive grants under the Children's Health Act of 2000 for the provision of services in schools (subsection (a)(5), 42 USC 254-c-6(a)(5)(C)).
Infant Adoption Training Initiative's expanded audience includes professionals employed in one of the fields listed below. These individuals are also invited to attend the free training. The mileage reimbursement, lodging and stipend are not available to those included in the following list unless one of the criteria above also applicable.
- State and county health department professionals (WIC, Better Babies, Bright Start, etc.)
- School nurses
- Crisis pregnancy centers
- State department of social services professionals
- Hospital nurses
- Staff from non-profit primary care clinics
- Indian Health Services staff
- Urban Indian Health staff
- Health care staff from youth and adult correctional facilities
- Health care staff from group care facilities & residential treatment centers
- Planned Parenthood
- Abstinence programs
- College student health services
- Rape and domestic violence crisis centers
- Domestic violence shelters
- Police Officers/Sherrif Deputies
- Probation/Parole Officer
- Correction Officer
The training is intended to educate those with little or no experience in adoption.
